Getting to Databases from Off Campus

Proxy Service for CCNY Faculty, Staff and Students

Proxy service enables library users to access commercially licensed electronic resources when connecting to the web from off campus (home or on the road). It applies to those resources that have been licensed for CCNY users only, such as ScienceDirect or Avery Index. It also applies to those resources licensed for all of CUNY, such as Lexis-Nexis or Academic Search Complete.

Qualifying for a proxy account:

  • You must be a member of the CCNY faculty, staff or student body.
  • You must have a valid City College e-mail account.
  • You must have a valid barcode.
    (Note: If you do not have a valid library barcode, simply go to the ID Office with your CCNY ID and you will be given a barcode)

Registering for a proxy account:

Registering for a proxy account is automatic if you use your City College email login credentials.

(Remember, you do not need proxy access from computers on the CCNY campus.)

Logging in to your account:

When you click on a database from off campus, you will see the login screen pictured below. Put in your email username and password.

On Order Materials

If you see an item in the catalog listed as “on order”, it means that the Library has ordered the material but it has not arrived yet. Once an item has arrived it will go to the Cataloging and Materials Processing Division before being made available for check out. This process may take several weeks. When an item is ready for check-out the catalog will be updated to say “Look on Shelf.”

Ordering/Recommending Library Purchases

If you would like the library to purchase a book, video or journal you can fill out an online recommendation form.
