Free E-Books Online

City College students, faculty, and staff have access to numerous E-Books and other online content from the CCNY Libraries' collection.  There are also many options for FREE E-Books on the internet.  Here are some of the most popular and well-known sites:


1.  Google Books- Titles in the public domain or not copyrighted are freely available. Other titles have previews or snippets available

2.  HaithiTrust Digital Library- A partnership of major research institutions and libraries working to ensure that the cultural record is preserved and accessible long into the future (HaithiTrust titles are available in Quick Search)

3.  Open library- Devoted to free access to public domain (out of copyright) books and to proper cataloging of them, has close to 2,000,000 books available for online viewing

4.  The Digital Public Library of America- Has emerged out of the HathiTrust Digital Library and boasts millions of volumes.

5. Project Gutenberg- One of the oldest enterprises offering free e-books is Project Gutenberg which has over 40,000 titles of its own and offers a further 100,000 free titles through its affiliates.

6. Directory of Open Access Books- Opened in 2012 and offers over a thousand peer reviewed academic books for free from close to 40 publishers.
